22.11.2016The Grizzly is a good grinder, and is the cheapest 2 X 72 you will find. It has a contact wheel, flat platen, and buffer. While it has it's drawbacks, it's hard to beat as a basic shop tool. I have a Hardcore 2 X 72, a Pheer 2 X 72, and the Grizzly. If my Grizzly broke down, I would immediately order another (and I have in the past.)

23.01.2018I have a 2 x 48 Delta belt grinder that was my main go to grinder but the motor was even with the platten so I couldn't grind anything longer than about 6 without it running into the motor unless I wanted to slack belt it. My new club build 2 x 72 is down to the fine bits and it'll be in operation. I'm pretty jazzed. Frosty The Lucky.

26.01.2014Nothing beats a good 2x72 grinder, it looks like you have a great start. I did a similar build, I used a polar bear forge kit as the base though - it worked out really well but it wasn't just put it together it took quite a bit of work. The VFD was TOTALLY worth the money. You'll love it. I rarely if ever use the grinder at full speed.

So, to do the math, Grizzly ($524 with shipping) + better grinder later ($1000 arbitrary amount) = $1500 contrasted to, good grinder with cheap motor ($600) + better motor with VFD ($600) = $1200.
